Drawing Set - Textures

Posted are some of the results of the past month or so. I thought I would initially start doing what come most naturally, drawing.

My commercial illustrative style always starts with a set of rough pencil scribbles which are then re-drawn to an acceptable standard and scanned into Photoshop. It is within Photoshop that I then start the process of colouring using pre-scanned, found textures. It is these textures I have decided to document.
I am constantly inspired by the textures I use in my commercial work. Working in a secondary school Art Department I'm surrounded by the 'creative mess' of discarded brush marks, paint splats, pencil, print marks etc Which randomly fuse together to form unique compositions. For example if a student is messily painting a picture which is placed on a sheet of paper to stop paint getting on the table, it is usually the paint marks left on the paper that I find most interesting. I like to think of the marks as the left over or discarded marks of the creative process and that is what I'm trying to capture with this initial set of drawings and, to a lesser extent the brooches I have started making.

I have entered two of the drawings into the Smiths Row Gallery, Bury St Edmunds, open exhibition. Not sure if they will be selected (as this is a new territory for me) but we will wait and see……

Texture 02, one of the two drawings entered into the Suffolk Showcase at Smiths Row has been selected for exhibition.

The Suffolk Show Case 2013 is on from Sat 6 - April - Sat 8 June. Opening times Tuesday - Saturday 10:30am - 5:00pm.
